The Liz Ellis Goals 4 Girls Foundation has been
established to provide money for educational scholarships covering tuition costs at
schools for girls who display leadership, academic and sporting aptitude, and whose family
situation would otherwise preclude them from pursuing their educational goals.
Scholarships will be awarded to girls who: are
about to embark on Year 11 studies; have a sound academic performance and attitude to
study based on school reports and school principals comment; have represented their
school in at least one sport; have demonstrated strong leadership qualities through being
involved with sporting, school, community, cultural or other groups; demonstrate a
capacity for initiative, tenacity, and application; show potential for continuing
education or development as a valuable community member; and are an active participant in
the school and local community; Preference will be given to students who may not be able
to attend or continue schooling at the school (selected by the Foundation) due to
demonstrated financial difficulties or other social or economic disadvantage.
A secondary aim is to identify areas of vocational
interest for scholarship recipients and where possible link them with a female mentor to
assist them in transitioning from their senior years of high school study into tertiary
study or vocational training. It is proposed that this be facilitated by the Western
Sydney Women in Business group.
Future plans for the Liz Ellis Goals 4 Girls
Foundation include leadership camps for young women from disadvantaged backgrounds, as
well as tertiary scholarships.
